Hey There

My name is Jenny. I completed a Bootcamp at the renowned Brainstation School which

I concluded in May 2022. I had the pleasure of developing this exciting project called FlexOofice, which I believe can bring more peace, safety, and happiness going back to work at offices.

The app launch and promotion website was developed based on user interviews and feedback. First the Wireframes were developed, then the Content Flow Diagram, and then the Hi-Fi Website, both for the desktop and mobile website, that let me explain the app’s main features.

Introduction

The Problem Space

With consciousness on the rise, healing and growth practices have become one of the most pursued activities, making self-help the leading industry in the world. Millennials are seeking the next experience to bring them more peace,

energy, and happiness. In a world where stress leads to illness, holistic and wellness practices seek to optimize one’s whole being – body, mind, and spirit.

I interviewed five millennials that are open to holistic services. That way I can received insights, sew if they would use the services and got ideas to build the app. Each interview was done by Zoom and lasted around 20 min.

Secondary Research

Because of the pandemic, people have lost loved ones, jobs, and their sense of community. Not only did they have health problems, but throughout the pandemic, they developed mental problems such as increased stress and anxiety.

Despite several months of acclimating to a new reality and societal upheaval spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans are struggling to cope with the disruptions it has caused. Nearly 8 in 10 adults (78%) say the coronavirus pandemic is a significant source of stress in their life. And, 2 in 3 adults (67%) say they have experienced increased stress over the course of the pandemic. Dr. Michael Young, service chief of The Retreat at Sheppard Pratt, a psychiatric hospital in the Baltimore, Maryland, suburb of Towson, said that it was not a surprise that the survey revealed more than 4 in 5 adults in this country are displaying “signs of prolonged stress.” Nearly a year into the pandemic, prolonged stress persists at elevated levels for many Americans. As we work to address stressors as a nation, from unemployment to education, we can’t ignore the mental health consequences of this globally shared experience,” said Arthur C. Evans Jr., Ph.D., APA’s chief executive officer. “Without addressing stress as part of a national recovery plan, we will be dealing with the mental health fallout from this pandemic for years to come.”

Research Plan

Goals and Objectives

Methods

The goal of the project is to discover users’ frustrations and the pain points for those who would like to use holistic services. We used personal interviews to gain insights about the possibility to have an app offering these services to them, if they would enjoy having the instructor coming to their house, or if they would prefer doing activities in larger groups, for example.

I interviewed five millennials that are open to holistic services. That way I received insights, understood if they would use the services, and got ideas to build the app. Each interview was done by Zoom and lasted around 20 min.

Participant Criteria

Millennials living in Miami. The interviewee needs to be open and curious about holistic activities.

The Interviewee’s are:

I spoke with four women and one man who live in Miami and are between 30-40 years old.

Interview Script

I chose to interview millennials who live in Miami and are open to trying holistic services or have tried the services before at some point in their lives.

The Script

Tell me a little bit about yourself. Where do you live? What is your age? Tell me how stress and anxiety play a role in your life. When you think of holistic healthcare, what comes to mind?

Past Experiences

  • Tell me about a holistic service that you experienced recently. How was it? How did you get find out about this service? How did you arrive at the event? Was it enjoyable? How was the process?

  • Have you ever had a bad experience with holistic services?

  • Describe to me a time that you felt really stressed and what did you do to relieve the stress?

  • Describe a time when you looked for help on the internet to understand how to solve your stress and anxiety. Why? What were your motivations? What are your motivations to feel calmer and less anxious?

Preferences & Opinions

  • How would you prefer to pay for holistic healthcare services? Would you rather pay for each individual service on a “pay as you go” agreement or pay a monthly fee to have access to all the provider’s services?

  • What type of environment do you prefer to practice holistic activities?

  • Would you rather practice activities by yourself or in a group?

  • Would you rather have holistic services given to you by video call or in-person?

  • Would you rather go to a holistic service or have a holistic service come to your house?

Technology Related Questions

  • Have you ever downloaded an app to find holistic experiences, and if so, how was your experience with the app?

  • What would you like to see in an app to help you with your stress and anxiety reduction?

  • What are some things in an app that bother you?

  • Is there any holistic app that you wish you had that would make your life easier?

Interviewees

Motivation

Participants have tried holistic services such as massage, yoga, chiropractic care, and breathwork sessions, and they all loved and enjoyed the practices. Users want to live a happier and more joyful life and feel that holistic practices can lead them to that. User understands that their emotions are not related to the circumstances they are living at the moment that they are feeling them. They are just symptoms that can be alleviated by the proper treatments.

Pain Point

After the pandemic, stress, and anxiety increased. In-plant medicine and psychedelic ceremonies, in the wrong setting, traumas beyond your worst nightmares can take place.

Behavior

Have used the web to find therapists. Some users already meditate daily. Most users would pay for a monthly subscription to use holistic services.

Things in an app that bother the user

  • Too many notifications.

  • Advertisements.

  • Complexity.

  • Not friendly interface, too much text.

Additional Insights

1) Most of the interviewees would like to do activities in a group.

2) Most of them would like a monthly fee payment system.

3) Most of them like the idea of receiving holistic services at their house.

4) Users would like to have an app with affordable holistic services near their home.

Task Flow Analysis

An existing SacredWay user who already created an account in the app is looking to book a massage therapist to come to her house to provide her the service in the confort of her house.

UI Inspiration

I was inspired by these images and used these cards’ structure to design the pages, organize the information, create the content and categories of the Sacred Way app.

User Interface Inspiration

Here I used these screens as inspiration for the development of the calendar and the professional profile page. I used the same design style, and it gave a very interesting effect.

Hand drawings were developed based on the ideas cultivated from the UI inspiration board. These ideas were then further developed through lo-fi wireframes. Here were initial ideas where I drew what the organization pages of the list of professionals would look like, then the professional's profile page, the calendar, and the action completion page. All screens are a simple design to make the user's navigation process as easy as possible.

SacredWay was developed through usability testing over the course of iterations of prototypes.

Introduction

As part of the Sacred Way app design process, we plan to conduct usability tests with 10 people in two rounds to obtain practical, real-time feedback that can be incorporated to improve the design and provide a more optimal user experience. Users are new to the app, but they already created an account and now they are looking for a massage therapist to come to their homes to provide the service. I’ll analyze how they feel when navigating the app’s screens, and whether they can complete the action of booking an appointment. Their responses will be considered when making changes and improvements to the prototype.

User

The user is looking for ways of healing because he/she is feeling anxious and stressed. The user already created an account in the app and bought a package to use their points.

The Goal Is

To find a massage therapist that can come to my house to provide the service.

Evaluation Tasks

Can the user understand what they are doing on the app?

Can the user understand that they should pick a session of their interest, “Rituals Alone”; “Rituals in Group”; “Rituals at Home”; “Rituals at the Studio”?

Can the user understand how to book a therapist for a massage session?

Can the user check professional’s reviews?

Can the user book the appointment?

Based on interviewing users, they were confused about whether they needed to click 2 or 4 buttons, and I decided to simplify the process by doing one step on each screen.

Here they had a lot of doubts about how professionals would be ranked, and also before it was priceless, and they asked a lot

about the price of professionals. And it also came out in a lot of tests that they want to know what kind of masseuse they were,

so I put their specialty in the profile.

Screen Shot 2022-04-28 at 6.19.20 PM.png

The calendar had many problems, and I also decided to separate the pages, first, the user chooses the date and on the next page enters the time.

Now let's see the final prototype.

SACRED WAY

I chose the name Sacred Way for this project because I wanted the app to be a way for people to find holistic and wellness services. Holistic stresses one’s whole being – body, mind, and spirit in a natural way and all that comes from nature.

Aesthetic + Branding

Aesthetics should refer to the chosen words, and I would like to bring a more refined aesthetic to a more informed public that understands these alternative practices. Inspire a new look at health and well-being. Aesthetics should bring peace, and convey trust, healing, rawness, and tranquility.

Screen Shot 2022-04-28 at 9.23.14 PM.png
Wordmark Ideation

The brand was developed based on the references below. I found these references in the spirit of the name, which would also represent this mystical look at ancient Buddhist/Hindu traditional healing, which now has enjoyed intense popularization through the popularity of meditation and Yoga, for example.

Wellness, holism, and self-help are concepts that have expanded exponentially through the web. Younger consumers who have always gotten their information through the internet have a new way of looking at health and well-being. One of the biggest opportunities here will be educating users about all matters of wellness and holistic lifestyle, and research the possibility of creating a forum for the exchange of information, opinions and experiences.

I learned that it is extremely important to develop the project in collaboration with people – the potential end-users, especially interviewing them throughout the design process. A lot of feedback, suggestions for improvement, and ideas came from the interviews I realized with the product's target audience. I learned the importance of keeping the file as well as the component library organized and well-made so that the next professional UX Designer can continue working on the same project we started. Also, developing wireframes on paper before going to the computer helps a lot in generating ideas and maximizing time before creating the final designs. Through user research, the final product had a lot of change and improvement, and I believe that all projects that are digital should not stop being tested and iterated so that they can be improved because for me today UX/UI projects always continue to evolve.
